Organizational Background
Indigenous Peoples Rights International (IPRI) was born out of a global call to establish concerted efforts to address the global challenge of Indigenous Peoples confronted with criminalization, impunity, and violence for defending their lands and territories.
This initiative is a global effort led by Indigenous Peoples, activists, advocates, and organizations to strengthen coordination, solidarity, and actions on this critical issue at all levels with the goal to improve the situation of Indigenous Peoples. This Initiative aims to respond to, prevent, and reduce acts of criminalization of and violence against Indigenous Peoples and to provide better protection and access to justice for actual and potential victims not only as individuals but also as collectives or communities.

Description of the Position:
Under the overall responsibility and direct supervision of the Global Communications Coordinator, the Communications Intern shall provide support to the overall communications work of IPRI which implements the branding and communication strategies to promote IPRI’s programs.
Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities are categorized into the following:
1. Graphic Design
The Communications Intern shall create posters, websites, logos, brochures, newsletter designs and many other visual materials to communicate ideas and information. Activities include:
- Plan concepts by studying relevant information and
- Illustrate concepts by designing examples of art arrangement, size, type size and style and submitting them for approval.
- Prepare finished art by operating necessary equipment and software.
- Create a wide range of graphics and layouts for product illustrations, logos, and websites with appropriate
2. Basic Video Editing
The incumbent shall occasionally perform video editing tasks by producing final products using raw footage. Most raw videos are taken from IPRI activities like webinars, interviews, and other work. Activities include:
- Assemble raw footage and transfer or upload to a computer
- Follow a script, screenplay or outline.
- Input sound to enhance footage, which may include selecting music and writing voice-overs
- Input graphics to enhance footage
- Digitally splice film and video and synchronize them into one rough cut file
- Improve and correct lighting, color and faulty footage.’
- Basic Skills in writing News and Features articles
- Write news or short feature articles with focus on Asia or Africa
Working relationships and ethics
The Communications Intern works under the direct supervision of the Communications Coordinator. He/She shall be part of IPRI’s Communications Team.
The Intern is expected to be culture and gender sensitive; with high level of integrity, accountability and punctuality in the performance of duty; is a team player; and is able to deliver outputs with minimal guidance.
Minimum Qualifications
Location: From Africa or Asia
Education: Graduate or student in the last semesters of Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design/Communications, Journalism or a related field.
Experience: experience in graphic design, video editing and basic writing news or feature articles; preferably with a medium knowledge on Indigenous Peoples’ rights and issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Language: Excellent written and oral English communication skills. Has strong knowledge and skills in design and layout and adept in using Adobe Premiere/Photoshop and Canva. Relevant experience in video editing.
